EPRC – The Emergent Phenomenology Research Consortium

I found EPRC on the Directory page of NT2TD (Normalize Talking 2 The Dead).
From the website:

Pioneering research and advocacy for the responsible integration of meditation, psychedelics, and emergent practices among clinicians, academia and practitioners worldwide.

Emergent is a neutral but descriptive word that refers to a range of experiences that can emerge in various contexts, such as contemplation, meditation, the use of certain substances, and in various contexts not always obviously related to those situations and practices.

I’ve known people who have had emergent experiences such as kundalini rising – which can be interpreted as a psychotic break, and spontaneous mediumship – which is often described as “hearing voices in my head.” Emergent experiences, can sometimes be frightening, disabling, shattering. As a society, we often don’t recognize them as anything other than pathological. Sometimes a person gets psychotherapy or drugs or both and, eventually, “gets over it.” Sometimes a person is unable to “name it,” understand the experience, or integrate it and their life goes permanently off-track.

I hope knowing there is a science-based effort to understand and manage crises in emergent experiences, that should you need to, you and your loved ones will have the courage to resist misdiagnosis and persevere in seeking informed and appropriate help.
